Paakumshumwaau-Maatuskaau Biodiversity Reserve

The Paakumshumwaau-Maatuskaau biodiversity reserve is located in the Nord-du-Québec administrative region between 52°30’ and 53°15’ north latitude and 76°46’ and 78°53’ west longitude. It lies roughly 20 kilometres to the southeast of the Cree community of Wemindji and 32.5 kilometres to the north of the Cree community of Eastmain in the Baie-James Municipality. The biodiversity reserve covers an area of 4 539.0 km², including a marine portion of 146.5 km² and a terrestrial portion 4 392.5 km².

It lies within the the Baie-James Municipality, to which the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement applies, and covers an area of 108.7 km². It comprises habitats typical of the natural region of the James Bay Coastal Plain.

It is located in the territory of the Cree Nation of Whapmagoostui. Tursujuq National Park is located in the transition zone between boreal forest and tundra and possesses vestiges of human occupation dating back more than 3,000 years, including former trading posts from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Dana Lake Biodiversity Reserve is located in the Nord-du-Québec administrative region, between 50°46’ and 51°0’ north latitude and 77°3’ and 77°27’ west longitude. It is situated some 115 kilometres to the north-east of Matagami and some 97 kilometres to the south-east of the Cree village of Waskaganish. It covers an area of 347.4 km² and lies within the territory of the Cree Nation of Nemaska.
